- Title : Kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect in the Cosmic Micorwave Background Temperature Anisotropy

When photons in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) are scattered by free electrons in the intergalactic plasma, line-of-sight motion of the plasma

 doppler-shifts the scattered photons, adding to the secondary anisotropy of the CMB. We are just beginning to detect the signal of this kinetic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich(kSZ) effect from recent high-resolution CMB surveys. The kSZ effect allows intergalactic plasma in the light-cone to leave its imprint on the CMB, thereby allowing us the probe the history of the universe from the formation of first galaxies. Especially, we hope to constrain the properties of galaxies during the epoch of reionization taking adavantage of the patchy ionization field giving a huge boost to the signal. To do so, we need to account for nonlinear growth of structure and baryonic physics of plasma in the post-reionization universe as a prerequistie step. I shall talk about how we study those physics using simulations and what we have learned so far.
